Sustainable Princeton Hotel

Sustainable Princeton Hotel

Element Ewing Princeton has developed and implemented a unique program dedicated to Sustainable Hospitality. That initiative, EarthView, delivers environmental and conservation programs that positively impact hotel operations’ bottom line while simultaneously improving the well-being of our guests, our employees, our communities, and our planet.

Our Philosophy: Element Ewing Princeton embraces environmental and community stewardship as an integral part of maintaining and building a successful business. For that reason, we created and branded the EarthView program with a cross-functional team from our properties and our corporate offices. It is our vision to see the EarthView program evolve into a forum in which new concepts for sustainable hospitality are cultivated.

Our Approach: The EarthView program aims to promote our business through triple bottom line accountability. According to the triple bottom line, the success of our hotel rests not only on our financial success but also on our contributions to our environment and community. We are applying the same analytical approach we use to measure our financial success to measure our environmental and community impact.

Below are a few examples of everyday practices that showcase our commitment to sustainability, across all departments at our hotel.

Conservation – Waste Reduction

  • We have implemented and encourage a bed linen and towel reuse program with signage in all guest rooms to educate our guests
  • For extended stay guests of 5 or more nights, bed linens are changed only once per week unless additional changes requested
  • All suites and public space feature oversized windows to promote natural light and to naturally heat the area
  • Our food and beverage department only uses china, glassware and silverware to serve our guests.  There is no plastic ware or Styrofoam
  • Our team encourages staff, guests and clients to use double-sided copying at a reduced two-page cost
  • Our administrative team has stopped printing daily reports and send electronically
  • We encourage guests/clients to send proposals, marketing materials and sales kits electronically

  • We reduce waste wherever possible. Instead of small plastic containers, in-shower dispensers hold soap and shampoo
  • Filtered drinking water is provided in all guests suites to eliminate the need for disposable bottles
  • We provide recycle bins for glass, paper and plastic which are located in all guest suites and public spaces
  • Chairs are made with 41% recycled content and are Greenguard Certified
  • Sofa cushions are made with recycled soy
  • Art is mounted on walls with recycled tires
  • The flooring is made from 25% recycled material with anti-microbial carpet pad
  • Reusable laundry bags are provided in suites
  • Our housekeeping recycles soap through our participation in the Clean the World program
  • The hotel purchases recycled paper products for guest rooms and public areas; such as 20% toilet paper, 10% facial tissue, 100% beverage napkins and 40% C-fold paper towels
  • All of our guest room key cards are recycled. Our front desk only issues one key at check-in unless two are requested
  • We also have trained our front desk to request key card return and our housekeeping will return all key cards left in rooms to the front desk
  • We ensure that all light bulbs, batteries and electronic equipment are recycled properly
  • We provide recycling bins in all “back-of-house” areas for all team members to recycle appropriate

Conservation - Consumption Reduction

  • All guest suite kitchens are equipped with ENERGY STAR rated appliances
  • We use water-efficient faucets, fixtures and toilets that save 5,300 gallons of water per guestroom per year
  • By using CFL and LED technology, we save on resources and electric bills. Our high efficiency lighting provides great light, uses much less energy and lasts longer that incandescent bulbs
  • All paints and finishes used in the hotel are low VOC to help improve air quality
  • The hotel features an all natural saline indoor pool, a healthier, more eco-friendly alternative to chlorine
  • Our housekeeping team ensures that all lights and televisions are turned off in all guestrooms
  • For banquet events, filtered water is used instead of bottled water
